Some companies have taken the concept of mystery shopping research a bit further. They believe in sending undercover shoppers to their competitors. These shoppers go there and evaluate their service levels. Once they come back with their observations, the organization studies the report in detail. They try to emulate the good points and avoid the negative ones. When a company is on the verge of launching a new product or breaking new market segment, then also they use mystery shopping research to study their competitors view point. The shoppers visit the competitor posing as customer and try to cull out as much information they can. Undercover shopping as a concept has boomed in popularity in the past decade. Companies find it very useful and shoppers find it lucrative source of income.
