If you are reading an ad promising a six figure salary working as a qualified hidden shopper, you had better keep reading for the inevitable sales pitch. The truth is that the best way to find work in this field is through the many mystery shopping job boards available on the Internet. The hard truth of the hidden shopper world is that a six figure salary is impossible. Going on store visits can be a great way to some extra money or getting some free merchandise in your spare time, but there is hardly any possibility that it will make you your first million. There two main restrictions on the possible salary
- Relatively low pay – Hidden shoppers are meant to replicate the typical costumers experience and allow management an insider view into their operations. There is no degree or highly specialized training needed for the job, and as such, the pay scale reflects this.
- Transportation time versus working time – Many mystery shopping job boards will post assignments that include multiple locations for a single business within a one day period. This allows the hidden shopper provider to turn the findings into useable data immediately, but it requires that the shopper travels from location to location. There are virtually no jobs that will pay for the travel time, thus, you might be paid 40 dollars for two hours work, but may have to spend five hours in transit without being paid for the same.
